B/J .JAMES A. Boxxix AND LAWRENCE SCHWARTZ S OME SEVENTY YEARS AGO, Ehrlich,’ in 1881, first described erythrophagocytosis in a case of paroxysmal hemoglobinuria. Since thets his observations of in vivo erythrophagocytosis in the peripheral blood have been confirmed and extended by numerous other investigators. Without attempting an exhaustive review of the literature, some of the conditions its which this phenomenon has beets described are : paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, 6 incompatible blood traissfusions,79 hemolytic disease of the newborn,10#{176} pertsicious anemia,” sickle cell anemia,16 acquired hemolytic anemia,iT . 18 leukemia,19 ‘ 20
